Review Tour: Cross Drop

CROSS DROP
by Elizabeth Hartey

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: New Adult Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Nikki

I’m not a saint. Never claimed to be. I’ve played the game and scored my fair share—both on and off the field. This is why I should have known better than to fall for a hockey player. But I did. I fell fast and hard.

Now I’m left with the painful consequences, reminded every day of how reckless I had been by giving him my heart so easily—so willingly. Dalt broke me in the cruelest of ways, and because of him I’ll never be able to love again.

Dalt

Nikki changed me. She made me want to be a better man. My days playing off the field were over because she owned every little piece of my heart…until she left, leaving behind a gnawing ache where my heart used to be.

Now she’s back, and it’s painfully clear she hates me, ignoring me, pretending like I’m nobody to her. But that’s just too damn bad. I want answers. I want a goddamn explanation.

And most of all…I want her.

Excerpt:

“No, Nik.” He backs away from me, this time grabbing the handle of his car door. “I love you. I do,” his voice softens and my heart makes a hopeful leap. “But ,” and with one word it crashes down to my toes, “you lied to me. Not just lied. This is the biggest, most hurtful deception I could ever imagine. And not only hurtful to me, you also hurt Chloe by keeping me out of her life. Christ. I thought this kind of shit only happens in some bad movie or cheesy novel.” He pulls his car door open and it feels like the air is being sucked out of my lungs.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Stay. Please.”

“I can’t. I need some time to figure things out. I have to go to California for a few days to help Garrett work this shit out with my father. I’ll…I’ll call you.” He slides in behind the steering wheel.

“But…but Chloe.”

“I’ll be here for Chloe. No matter what.” He slams the door closed.

Wake up, Nikki. Just wake up. This isn’t happening. This can’t be happening.

Dalt’s tear-filled eyes stay locked with mine for a moment. He places the palm of his hand flat against the window glass and mouths the words, “Bye, baby.” His car circles in the driveway around me.

Raindrops begin to fall. I drop my head back to let them splash on the heat of my swollen face. When I lift my head and see the back of Dalt’s car disappear out the gate at the end of our driveway, my legs give out from under me.

“You promised you would never leave me again,” I whisper from my kneeling position before collapsing onto the gravel.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

As a lover of the northeast US, Elizabeth moved with her husband to the Poconos several years ago to open a Chiropractic Clinic. Four children and a menagerie of animals later, she has finally found time to fulfill her lifelong dream of writing novels. The wild ride of writing books is one of the most difficult things she’s ever done in her life. But the opportunity to get her stories out of her head and down on paper and send them out into the world is also one of the most wonderful things she’s ever done. A dreamer at heart, romance is the genre she spends most of her time writing and reading into the wee hours of the morning. And having readers fall in love with her characters as much as she does is almost as exciting as giving birth (just not as painful!) When not juggling work responsibilities and writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking the beautiful hills and woods around her home, swimming, knitting, watching old classic movies and travelling.

My Review
There were two reasons why I requested to review this book.

1. The Blurb - Normally I like male charaters that have been "wounded", which gives reason for their brooding or lack of love. The blurb gave me reason to believe that the female character dealt with heartbreak.

2. The main male character is a hockey player and the main female character is a soccer player.

πŸ”₯Heat level is high for a  contemporary romance novel.  Depending on the opinion of each individual reader, this  could be good or bad for the book. At first I was wondering if I would be able to finish the book because of the "heat level". However, as soon as I did, I immediately loved the couple.

Because both main characters were athletes, I expected more talk about soccer or hockey. This is why I chose the rating  of four out of five.

Rating: πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Elizabeth Hartey will award a $20 Amazon or BN GC to one randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.
