Very short review: Haunting Fairytales (Volume 2)

This is the second book by R.L. Weeks that I read.

It is a continuation of the charaters of Snow, Bella and an evil queen. It also contains spins of Rapunzel, Peter Pan and Wendy.

Haunting Fairytales Collection: Volume 2 was as well written as the first volume.

Review: Light the Lamp

In hockey the phrase "light the lamp" means score a goal.
Liam Kellen is a hockey player for the Portland Storm. He is also a windower. While driving over a bridge Liam sees Noelle whose car has over-heated. While neither one knows it at first, Liam manages to get Noelle to safety. A driver crashes into Noelle's car which bursts into flames. This was slightly similar to how Liam lost his wife.
When truth about Noelle's living situation is revealed , Liam once again lends a helping hand and invites her to this place. Noelle agrees to stay with Liam. Is Noelle the cause of a turnaround in the game? In his life?

This is the first of Catherine Gayle's books I have read.  There were two things I really liked about it. The first was all the talk about hockey. The second was the broken hockey player and a woman that wants to help him as much as he helps her.

Author Bio:
I grew up in Cambridgeshire, joining the RAF when I was 18. I married and had my son. When I divorced, I moved back to my home town and raised my son there. Since moving back, I’ve worked mainly in retail, currently, I’m stretching my brain in an opticians. I started writing early 2013, as an escape from a job I hated and found that I enjoyed it and people seemed to like reading what I had written, so I’ve gone on to write several more books and more in progress. Outside of work and writing, I love reading (of course), cinema and theatre. Especially a good musical. I also enjoy photography and cruising, the latter giving me ample opportunity to pursue the former. Apart from that, I drink far too much coffee, like wine a little too much and my worst trait is procrastination.

Interview
 Q. Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.

I started writing abut 3 ½ years ago. I first self-published From Solitude in October 2013, under the longer title, Lead me From Solitude. I’ve since written a sequel and a prequel to that, along with 2 from a series called The Midnight Tigers and a stand-a-lone (although that could change) called Blind Faith. I have also released a teen fantasy novella called A Forgotten Tale, under the pen name Elise Rayne.

 Q. What authors, or books, have influenced you?

I LOVE Terry Pratchett and JK Rowling. I suppose a lot of my influences come from the genre I usually write in – romance- so I would have to list the 50 Shades books, the Crossfire series to name a few. I also adore The Chronicles of Narnia. They were the books that got me hooked on reading as a child.
 Q. What are you working on now?

I tend to have several books on the go at one time. If I hit a wall with one, I’ll write a chapter in one of the others. At the minutes, it’s a 2nd sequel and prequel for From Solitude, a different genre one off called Millenius and anther Elise Rayne story

 Q. What are you reading now?I’ve just treated myself to a Terry Pratchett book – Raising Steam.

Q. What’s next for you as a writer?

To try and expand the genres I write in and hopefully just keep improving and finding new inspirations.

ARC book review: The Duke of Deception

A relationship between Edward Bishop and Aquilla Knoxs escalate quickly when he finds her in the rain. Aquilla is more worried about finding work than a husband. Edward is interested in marriage but believes he has yet to find the girl who can pass a test of trust. This test includes trips to a hospital. In the hallway, Edward purposes to Aquilla. His brother, however, doesn't take the idea of Edward taking a wife too well.

There were many twists that surprised me. These twists added to the enjoyment of the book. The interaction bewteen the Duke of Sutton and the Baron Lindsell was very intriguing. This is the second regency romance novel by Darcy Burk I have read. It is also the third book in her "Untouchables" series. While "The Duke of Deception" can be read without reading the first two, I recommend that completing the first two books.

Satisfaction is the name of the game at the Double S Ranch, where the men are more than willing to play. They come from all walks of life, and each has their own reason for dancing for a lady’s pleasure. A former Navy SEAL, Brandon Stewart started dancing after an injury in the field put him out of commission. The power he commands when a woman’s eyes are locked on him makes Brandon feel like the man he used to be. But when he meets Porsche, Brandon has never felt more stripped bare. The spirited beauty needs a handsome fake boyfriend to make another man jealous. But Brandon is determined to prove to Porsche that pretending with him is nothing compared to the real thing... Read an excerpt! Dougal scampered around them, chasing dust whorls, but Brandon’s attention was on Porsche’s face. He was loath to let her go. “So, did you and Claire come up with any brilliant ideas?” He wasn’t truly interested, but this was as good a ploy as any to keep her here. For a while longer at least. Porsche threw back her head and laughed. Her eyes sparkled and her parted lips tantalized him. “No. We got distracted.” She leaned closer. “We often do.” “What distracted you?” She pinned an innocent look on her face. “Lisa was making profiteroles.” “What the hell are profiteroles?” “Choux à la crème,” she said with a wave of her hand. He laughed. “Still in the dark.” “Cream puffs.” Now that he understood. “I should probably go visit the kitchen.” “Good luck with that. Claire’s in there. We call her Hooverlips.” “That is hardly kind.” “Maybe not. But true. She does love to eat.” Dougal spotted another dust whorl and shot off in yet another direction. The leash wound around their legs and they, perforce drew closer. And damn, he loved the feel of her pressing against his chest and groin, her smile, her laugh as she fell against him. She gazed up into his eyes and said, “I think we’re trapped.” “I think so too.” But he could hardly complain. Until she tried to wiggle free. Then again, he did like the wiggling. They both laughed as they became even more inextricably entwined and then, all of a sudden, Porsche froze. Her gaze, wide and welcoming, snapped to his. “Oh, kiss me now,” she gushed and his heart thumped. She wrapped her arms around his neck and went up on her tiptoes and pursed her lips. Though he was hardly disinclined, he was surprised. What had incited this sudden and incongruous passion? He stared at her in shock as his body went on point, hummed, trilled with exhilaration and excitement. “Hurry,” she said. “He’s watching.” He’s watching. Well hell. His mood plummeted. He should have realized. He should have expected as much. He was a fool for thinking she suddenly wanted to kiss him. He was struck with an immediate anger, and at the same time, a scorching determination. Kiss her? He’d give her a kiss she would never forget. He took her cheeks in his hands and tipped her head a bit to the side and stared at her. “Are you ready?” he asked in a whisper. She blinked. “I…ah…yes.” But still, he waited, staring at her lips, so full and lush. He’d waited so long to taste her, the anticipation itself was delicious. Slowly, he lowered his head and he brushed his mouth over hers, a tease and nothing more. Then he did it again. Good God, she was delectable. Soft, sweet, a velvety heaven. She tasted of sugar and a hint of chocolate with an undertone of…Porsche. He wanted to sink into her. Consume her. So he did. He deepened the kiss, investing in it all his desire, his hope, his passion. And God help him, she responded. She tightened her hold and pressed against him and made little mewling sounds that set his body on fire. He leaned into the kiss, bending her back, grasping for all he could reach. It became a conflagration, a wild storm swirling them both in a savage whirlwind of gargantuan proportions that was— “Ahem.” An annoying voice came from his left. Brandon attempted to ignore it. “Ahem!” He lifted his head and stared down into Porsche’s eyes. He was gratified that she seemed dazed and boneless. Really gratified when she reached up for another kiss. And that, of course, set him off again as well. He couldn’t get enough. Not ever. “Hello? People? That’s good. You can disengage.” Claire—for that was who it was—attempted to pull them apart. “But Cody’s watching,” Porsche murmured, snuggling in closer. “He’s gone.” To Brandon’s disgruntlement, she eased back, still staring into his eyes. “He’s gone,” she whispered. “I heard,” he said. But he couldn’t resist one more kiss. Just one. And damn it all to hell. Why hadn’t Cody stayed just a little longer? Blog Tour: So Good

Hello Darcy Burke Fans! I am very happy (and honored) to be a stop on this blog tour.

The Blurb

Cameron Westcott has spent eight years recovering from heartbreak by keeping romantic entanglements casual and simple. He’s never minded being called a manwhore, but after two years immersing himself in his new winery, he might be ready for the next chapter. Especially when he meets a sexy wine distributor—only she says she isn’t interested.

Following a bitter divorce, Brooke Ellis relocated to Ribbon Ridge to rebuild her life. Things will never be the same for her, and she’s coming to terms with that reality when she meets charming, persistent Cam. She can’t imagine a happy ever after given his reputation, but he makes her feel so good.

As the sparks between them intensify, they’re both hesitant to commit for very different reasons. Or are they really just sabotaging their own futures? If they can trust each other—and themselves—they may realize that what they share is too good to let slip away.

An Excerpt

“So, tell me how you came to be a player.”
He barked out a laugh. “You nearly made me trip. Not going to beat around the bush with that one, huh?” He looked over at her, smiling.
“Nope. I’m taking a page from your playbook and shooting straight. You don’t deny your reputation?”
“Nope,” he echoed. “I will say that I’ve mellowed a bit recently. I’m too busy with the winery.”
“So if not for the winery, you’d be up to your usual shenanigans.”
“Shenanigans… Yes, I suppose so.” He lifted a shoulder. “Maybe not. I don’t know. What do you mean by ‘shenanigans’?
She kept her gaze forward. “I hear you had a different girl in every city when you were on the road.”
They turned the corner, and she stopped as they reached the door to her building.

He stopped too and turned toward her. “Not every city. And anyway, I don’t travel anymore.”
“Right. You’re busy. Does that mean you don’t date?
He moved closer. “Are you asking me out?”
The scent of his cologne stole over her. The green of his eyes at this range was so deep, so captivating, she could easily sway toward him and… She straightened her shoulders. “No.
“Well, that’s a damn shame.” His words carried a dark, seductive tone of regret. “Guess I’ll have to ask you out—since I wasn’t clear about it before.”
“No. Thank you,” she rushed to add. “I had a nice time tonight, but I’d prefer to keep our relationship strictly professional.”
“Too bad,” he said softly. “I was sort of hoping I could kiss you.”
Standing here with him in the early twilight, feeling the intoxicating burn of his stare, she was sort of hoping that too. But she hadn’t done that in so long… And she wasn’t ready. Okay, her body was totally ready, but her mind was still trying to figure out what the hell to do with Cameron Westcott.
“Cameron—”
“Cam. Everyone calls me Cam.” He inched closer so that she could feel his proximity, and heat raced through her. “At least everyone who likes me.”
“Cam, I—”
“Oh good, you like me.”
She couldn’t help smiling. He was good at that—making her smile. No one had been good at that in a very long time. Not even herself. Especially not herself. “I do. And… Well, ask me again sometime.”
Had she just said that out loud?
“If I can kiss you?” He leaned forward, putting his lips against her ear. “Count on it.”

The Interview

1. Did you use any of your own experience as inspiration?

I do! Several characters in Ribbon Ridge are drawn from my experience, particularly Sara Archer in ONLY IN MY DREAMS and Evan Archer in THE IDEA OF YOU. In the latest book, SO GOOD, the opening scene is a real event—the salmon bake at the International Pinot Noir Festival. I’ve been twice, most recently this summer. It’s a tremendously fun event and I’m delighted to share it with readers.

2. On average, how long does the writing process take?

Ideally, it takes me about two to three months to fully draft and edit a book, although I’m noodling and plotting long before the actual writing starts happening.

3. When did you realize you wanted a career in writing?

I’ve wanted to write a romance since high school, but didn’t get serious about it until my mid-thirties. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to make a career out of it given the competitive market, but indie publishing has offered a great path for writers who work hard and have an entrepreneurial spirit.

4. If you weren't an author, what other career paths would you have taken?

In high school and college, I also wanted to be an actor. My aunt was a famous actor in Denmark (she was the first American admitted to the Royal Danish Theatre Company), so I felt very inspired by her. I didn’t end up doing that, but my cousins followed in her footsteps, so that’s cool! Before I started writing, I was a project manager in the financial industry and in high-tech. I loved that job and would probably be doing that if I wasn’t writing.

5. Out of the characters that you created, who is your favorite?

I don’t have a single favorite. There’s always something I love about each character. In Ribbon Ridge, I have a deep love for Evan and for Sara, probably because of the personal connection I have with their disabilities. I also feel close to Tori Archer, who had a very tough emotional arc in WHEN LOVE HAPPENS. I really identified with her struggle to find peace in the wake of a tragedy she felt she could have and should have stopped.

6. What advice would you give to someone looking to be a writer?

Write as much as you can in as many ways as you can. I did a lot of technical writing and marketing writing and writing manuals and so on long before I started writing fiction. Mastering the flow of sentence structure and just being able to communicate via the written word is really important and something fiction writers might take for granted when they’re just starting out. As with anything, practice really does make perfect (okay, not perfect, but better!). I’d also encourage them to join a professional organization, such as Romance Writers of America. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t sought out other writers and learned from those who had been there, done that.

7. What kind of research (if any) was required for any of your books?

Since Ribbon Ridge is located here in Oregon and is a fictional town, it’s been relatively easy to research setting and create the world. The first six Ribbon Ridge books dealt with the renovation of a monastery into a hotel so I had to do some research with construction and legal matters. I’m fortunate to be married to an attorney who specializes in construction among other things!

8. How long after you finish a book do you start another one?

I usually have a few weeks where I’m outlining the new book while one book is in the editing stage, so there’s actually some overlap between projects. Sometimes I’m able to dive right into the next book and other times, I have to take a little breather. Right now, I switch genres with each book (historical, contemporary, historical, contemporary, etc.), which is refreshing but also requires me to reset my brain a little!

Thank you so much for having me today

ebook review: Haunting Fairytales Collection Volume 1

This is the first book by R.L. Weeks that I have read.

Haunting Fairytales Collection Volume 1 is a major dark spin on well-known characters. These characters include Ariel, Bell, and Snow White. It is made up of five stories.

I usually enjoy stories that have many unexpected twists. Haunting Fairytales Collection Volume 1 was not an exception to that rule. I am looking forward to readin volume 2.

Short book review: Siren's Kiss

Skyla is a mermaid with the ability to shape-shift. Adam "Clay" Clayton is an American that has been in Greece.

There were two things that I really liked. The first was that the story was told by two characters. This also suprised me. So far, I only know of one other book that is told by two characters. The second thing I like was the shape-shifting and other magic.

Based on the description, I thought the book would be longer. However, I am not complaining about the time this book took to read.

Siren's Kiss was written by Margo Bond Collins. It was the first of her books I have read.

ARC book review: The Duke of Daring

The biggest surprise was the use of the title in the book. Other books that I read did not include the name of the book. Andrew Dartford is dubbed "The Duke of Daring" by Lucy Parnell and two other women.

Neither Andrew nor Lucy want to be married. Andrew suffers from survivor's guilt. Lucy does not want to be left like her grandmother and mother were.

In one chapter alone, I felt joy and excitement one moment. However worry was not very far. This is where I questioned if the book would have a happy ending.
The Duke of Daring was written by Darcy Burke. While I have read another of Mrs. Burke's books, this is the first regency romance novel I read.

First review

This is my first attempt at a book review. I apologize if it is not as detailed as it probably should be.

The book is called Where the Heart Is. It was written by Darcy Burke.

The main male charater is Derek Sumner. He is an executive and volunteer fire fighter. While responding to a fire, he meets Chloe English. She is a teacher that left a job, a fiance and Pittsburg.

I quickly fell in love with Derek because he behaved like a knight in shining armor.

The book was easy to read and the action started almost right away. Both are what I like in a book.

😄😄😄😄😄
