Blog Tour: Hill Country Promise

Meet the Author:

Kit writes sweet contemporary Western romance. She makes her home in south central Texas on her husband’s ancestral farm, where seven generations of his family have lived and loved. When not writing, she can be found sewing, quilting, reupholstering furniture, playing Irish pennywhistle, refinishing old wood, cooking huge amounts of food for the pressure canner, or wrangling various dogs, cats, and people.

About the Book:

Can a childhood pact …

Lead to forever love?

Best friends Eliana and Luke agreed to marry if she was still single by age twenty-seven. And when her birthday arrived, Luke proposed. At first, everything seemed perfect. A little too perfect. Eliana now realizes she has everything she ever wanted—except Luke’s heart. Can their friendship survive their engagement?

My Review

At first both Luke and Eliana seemed to needy. Neither of them could really be clear of what, or who, each of them wanted. This just made the story uninteresting.

It was only when true feelings were revealed that I was able to enjoy the story.

About the Book:

Can she forgive… The man who walked away?

Eight years ago, Marcos Ramirez met and married Nina Walker in the space of a day. The next morning, a family tragedy had him hightailing it back to his family’s Texas ranch. After annulling the marriage and redeploying with the marines, Marcos never thought he’d see Nina again. But now she’s moved to his hometown, with a secret that will change this rancher’s life forever…

Nina opened the brand-new box of turmeric-ginger tea and took out a bag. She got a bag of yaupon tea for herself.

As she was pouring the hot water, Marcos said suddenly, “Nina, how’d you ever manage all this time on your own? I’m worn out after just one day. You’ve been doing it for years.”

She set the kitchen timer and took the seat across from him.

“I don’t know,” she said truthfully. “I guess I just had to, so I did.”

“Well, you’re doing a great job.”

She couldn’t resist a little dig. “There were times today when you didn’t seem to care much for my methods.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he deadpanned.

She gave him a shove on the shoulder, and he grinned.

“Okay,” he said. “It’s possible that…mistakes were made today. I may have overstepped my bounds a time or two.”

“That’s very big of you to say. To be fair, you may have had a point about the whining. Oh, and that whole I-can’t-hear-you-when-you-talk-like-that thing? Genius.”

“That was my mom’s line. Couldn’t believe it when I heard the words coming out of my mouth.”

“Your mom’s pretty smart.”

His face turned serious. “So are you. You’re a good mother. You set clear boundaries, and you enforce them, but you don’t micromanage. And it’s obvious that you enjoy being around him.”

“Thanks. You’re shaping up to be a pretty good father.”

He shrugged. “Well, given my track record so far, almost anything is an improvement.”

Nina remembered how he’d looked with Logan slung over his shoulders, smiling and strong and sure of himself.

“I mean it,” she said.

Her gaze dropped from his heavy-lidded eyes to his mouth, lingering a moment on the devastating curve of his bottom lip, then to his leanly muscled forearms resting on her dining table. His hands were folded together, just inches from hers. His fingers slowly unfurled. Nina’s heart skipped a beat.

Blog Tour: One-of-a-Kind Bride

Book Blurb:

It's a promise she plans to keep at all costs.

Taylor Preston never breaks a promise, especially to her dying mother about following her dreams to become a successful New York bridal gown designer. But when Taylor unexpectedly loses her high-profile job, she returns early to Last Stand, Texas where she happily spent childhood summers, to help with her cousin’s wedding. On Taylor’s first day back, the boy she left behind twelve years ago comes to her rescue and her sleeping heart inconveniently reawakens.

All during their youth, Ryan “Coop” Cooper played Taylor’s “promise game,” and they never once broke a promise to each other, but that was years ago, and Coop, now an established contractor, isn’t the same person. Building a wedding gift she-shed brings Coop closer to Taylor. They recall their promises – silly and solemn – and realize the spark could easily once again flame.

But Taylor’s life is in New York, and Coop, a single father, won’t risk his heart or his daughter’s again…

Excerpt:

Wedding gown blues--meeting Coop again after twelve long years…
“No, Muffy!  No. Come back! Muffy, Muffy.”
The little tyrant didn’t hesitate, not even for a second. By the time Taylor made it to the door, the pup was zipping down the street.
Taylor had no choice. She didn’t have a second to spare as Julie’s words echoed in her ears.
When she takes off, she’s too excited to know where the heck she is.
Taylor couldn’t lose Muffy or heaven forbid, have something happen to her.  She lifted the hem of her dress, and flew down the steps, racing as fast as her legs and French taffeta would let her.  Luckily the dog was in sight, but she didn’t know for how long, Muffy was lengthening her lead. “Stop Muffy! Stop!”
The dog raced in the opposite direction of town, to where the street became a country road. Her heart pounded, her breath came in short quick spurts.  She was losing ground. The dog was getting away. She picked up her pace, fighting dirt clods and hopping over potholes in the road.
Just then, a shiny red pick-up truck came up behind her. She untangled the veil from her face as the truck slowed and she glanced into the cab, hoping for a miracle.
And found a handsome, Stetson-wearing man, checking her out from the very top of her lace veil to the hand-stitched hem of her skirt, and everywhere in between.  He did a double take, then his lips lifted in a definite smirk.
If she wasn’t entirely certain who the blue-eyed guy was, the logo on the side door gave it away.
Cooper Construction.
Shoot.
Her heart did a little flip and her throat locked up good and tight.  Ryan “Coop” Cooper was so not her miracle. Yet he looked better than her own crazy daydreams.
“Hey Taylor,” he drawled slow and easy like.  “What poor guy are you running away from this
time?”

She’ll Risk it All……

But one night with Isabel Galante changes everything. Excerpt

Wicked Earls’ Club, London
Late October 1819

“It’s just a friendly game of whist. C’mon, Darby, play with us.” The marquess made another unsuccessful attempt to bring Nicholas into the game.
“I beg your pardon, my lord, but I don’t indulge in gaming.” Nicholas, Earl of Darby, shook his head, an easy smile curling his lips. His gaze swept the crowded room. Several men sat to his left near the fireplace, sipping drinks and engaged in conversation. Flanking the right side of the room were tables where various games of whist, faro, and hazard were in progress. “A friendly wager in the books, whether the heir will be born or a ninth daughter, perhaps whether Stanfeld will marry before he’s sixty, is as far as I go.”
“I’m in the books?” Gideon, the Earl of Stanfeld, scowled, his bushy dark brows coming together. “How in tarnation did I get in the books?”
“Once a man inherits an earldom, he becomes much more interesting.” Nicholas laughed and slapped him on the back. “Just an example, my friend. You are not a line in the club’s wagers.” He chuckled. “Yet.”
“I think I already regret putting you up as a member in the Earls’ Club.” Stanfeld tapped the golden W pinned to his friend’s lapel. “Your standing improved, and I don’t see you any closer to the parson’s trap than I am.”
A faded but familiar pain grazed Darby’s heart, and he forced another grin. “I escaped that snare once, if you remember.” He stopped a man in livery passing by. “Bring us a bottle of brandy, would you? We’ll be in the billiard room.” He nodded to Stanfeld and made his escape.
Nicholas made his way down the stairs, his thumb rubbing against the W. Wicked. Yes, he was a wicked earl and planned on keeping that title and this pin for many years. His vices did not hurt anyone nor interfere with his title or family. Stanfeld had recommended him to the elite club. He’d had the requisite qualifications—trusted among his peers and claimed the title of earl and bachelor. The benefits included an exclusive floor of this club, a set of private rooms for each, and almost any vice for the asking. He had utilized the reserved rooms frequently. In fact, this had become a second home ever since the death of his father, a week after Nicholas’s ill-fated marriage.
He had built up his reputation as a rake over the past several years, the gossips helping tremendously after his wife’s death. According to the on-dits, the Earl of Darby had drowned his sorrows in alcohol when his wife had mysteriously died. Some said she had been so frightened of his wedding night demands that she had killed herself. Others spoke in whispers of possible murder, only wanting the poor chit’s money, and knowing that as a peer, he could get away with it. Neither family had ever commented or spoken of the night, much to the dismay of the rattlers who wanted the sordid details. It had taken years to quiet the tongues. But the rumors still kept nosy mothers at arm’s length, worried for their innocent daughters. It kept him off the list of suitable bachelors.

My Review

This is the first book by Debbie Mason that I have read. I requested this book because of the blurb.
Ms. Mason creates a near perfect book boyfriend in Marco the fire fighter/paramedic. Although pilot Theia Lawson may not agree with my opinion.
There really was not much that surprised me . The only surprise for me was the number of twists in a contemporary romance novel.
The only thing that stopped me from. giving a rating of 5 was a slight difficulty keeping track of characters.
