Book Blast: Their New Year's Beginning

 Their New Year's Beginning

by Michelle Major

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

At the stroke of midnight, a stranger’s kiss changes everything…

Brian Fortune doesn’t think he will ever find the woman he kissed at his brother's New Year's

wedding. So when the search for the provenance of a mysterious gift leads him into a local

antique store a few days later, he's stunned to find Emmaline Lewis, proprietor—and mystery

kisser! Surprise turns to shock when he realizes that she's also six months pregnant. Brian has

never been the type to commit—and he’s really not ready to become a family man in one fell

swoop! But suddenly he knows he’ll do anything to stay at Emmaline's side—for good…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 EXCERPT:
I do need you. So much. Emmaline’s heart pounded with all the things she wanted to say to
him. But those things would just make her look like a bigger fool. She’d already let her heart
stay in the lead for far too long.
“I’m a soon-to-be single mother living in a small town in Texas.” She pointed a finger at him.
“You’re a big-city bachelor who likes your freedom and your uncomplicated life. I’m a box of
complications, Brian.”
“The past month has seemed simple enough to me,” he murmured. “Why does that have to
change?”
Because I’m in love with you, she wanted to scream. But she didn’t. It was bad enough that she
felt as though she was dying on the inside. She couldn’t bring herself to invite outright rejection
from him. If he wanted more, he’d tell her.
“We’ve had fun,” she said, which was only a tiny bit of the truth between them. “I’ll keep up the
research on the sculpture and let you know if I find anything.”
“That’s it?” He blew out a long breath.
“Is there something more?” she asked, hoping beyond hope that he’d give her some sign that
her fears weren’t founded. All she needed was one tiny reason to launch herself into his arms
and ask him to stay.
Their gazes held, and she could almost feel the current of electricity running between them.
Emmaline wanted to believe that Brian would tell her something more. That he would give her
what she needed to hear, the admission of love she was too afraid to say to him.
Hello All !
I missed the topic for last week. So I thought I would just and it to this week's Tell Me Something Tuesday. The topic was 'Blogging: Hardest Part'. At first I was going to say that it is only a matter of not procrastinating. After having issues my last two blog posts, I had to change my answer to posting using a smart phone.
This week's topic is reading challenges in 2022. If I participate in any, it will only be the Goodreads Challenge.
Blurb Blitz: The Widow Wore Plaid
The Widow Wore Plaid
by Jenna Jaxon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Historical Romance

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 BLURB:
The Battle of Waterloo made them widows, but each has found new happiness. And Jane, Lady
John Tarkington, intends to keep her freedom, even if love—and one particular gentleman—are
determined to claim her heart . . .
It is a truth rarely acknowledged—at least in public—that a wealthy widow is free to pursue a
great many adventures. For two years, Jane has privately enjoyed her independence. Why
should she remarry, even when the gentleman proposing is as wonderful as Gareth, Lord
Kinellan? She entreats him never to ask her again. But as her Widows’ Club friends—now all
joyfully remarried—gather at Castle Kinellan, Jane begins to wonder if stubbornness has led her
to make a terrible mistake . . .
Kinellan needs a wife to give him an heir, and he wants that wife to be Jane. They are perfect
together in every way, yet she continually refuses him. Just as he is on the point of convincing
her, a series of accidents befall Gareth and point to an enemy in their midst. He has promised
Jane a passionate future filled with devotion, but can he keep them both alive long enough to
secure it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

Parched, Gareth headed for the refreshment table that had been set up sufficiently far from the
dancing to be out of danger. Footmen were stationed at each end to help keep those who might
have imbibed too much from crashing into the table. He grabbed a cup of ale and drank thirstily
until the tankard was empty. Setting it back on the table, he then took a glass of rich, red wine
and sipped more moderately before heading back to the dancing.
He skirted the dancing couples, where Lathbury was heying with Jane, who was now flagging a
bit. Two sets of fast-paced Scottish dancing was hardly comparable to the more staid English
country dances. One actually had time—and breath—to converse during those. The faster
paced Scottish tempos demanded stamina and good wind.
A young couple ran laughing in front of him. Smiling at the gaiety of the pair, Gareth backed out
of their way, toward the blazing bonfire, his gaze still on Jane’s entrancing form. She did cut a
delightful figure when dancing.
A passerby jostled his elbow, but he managed to save most of his wine. He spun toward the
ungraceful lout when someone else shoved him harder.
The jolt propelled Gareth, already off balance, backward, directly into the flames of the roaring
bonfire.
Desperately windmilling his arms to regain his balance, Gareth fought the sickening, helpless
feeling of falling backward. Searing heat on the back of his head and jacket grew greater with
each passing second, telling him his efforts to right himself would be in vain. God help him, but
this would be a fiery end.

Author Bio:

Jenna Jaxon is a best-selling author of historical romance, writing in a variety of time periods
because she believes that passion is timeless. She has been reading and writing historical
romance since she was a teenager. A romantic herself, Jenna has always loved a dark side to
the genre, a twist, suspense, a surprise. She tries to incorporate all of these elements into her
own stories.
She lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets--including two vocal cats, one
almost silent cat, two curious bunnies, and a Shar-pei beagle mix named Frenchie.

Release Promotion: Heart of a Witch

𝑨 𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒚 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒅𝒐𝒎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨 𝑻𝒐𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒐𝒇 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔.

I’d never particularly liked humans, but I’d never wanted to kill one. Until now.

Hidden in a kingdom that hates witches, I’m forced to hide what I am. With my sister working in a secret dark magic club, and our family’s shop gaining unwanted attention, things couldn’t be worse when the notorious witch hunter, Damian Shaw, comes to town.

When my sister shows up dead, and my family’s name is called into question, we’re forced to adopt new aliases and leave the home we cherished. As I watch my life fall apart, I vow to destroy the hunter responsible, but his punishment would not be swift. Death was too easy.

Redforest is a quaint town, with a church, pretty shops, and like any good town, a dark past. When my family and I move in, I set my sights on the Shaw family, quickly learning everything I can about them. Damian’s son, Elijah, is the hunter’s greatest pride. His heir. His confidante. The only family he trusts.

I come up with a plan. I am going to shatter every good thing in Damian’s life, ending with his son. My goal: make Elijah Shaw fall in love with me, twist him into the very thing his father hates, then kill him.

With my heart challenged, the attraction growing, I find myself trapped in a deadly game. In a twist of fate, Elijah might just end up being the death of me

“Town square. I was going there next.”

I pushed him out of the way and grabbed my boots, sharing a glance with my brother before running out the door. I prayed to deities I didn’t believe in that Ember was far away from all this. Anyone who’d heard of Damian Shaw knew that no witches passed a trial with him. If he caught us, we were already dead.

My stomach knotted as I ran toward the town square. Stars twinkled against the matte-black night, but the first hues of blue had already faded the speckled silver in the distance. It had to be four, maybe five o’clock, based on the sky. I’d heard he held trials at night because it was when he believed a witch’s powers were weakest. His logic was stupid, but then he was human and a priest to boot.

Please, Ember, don’t be there. Please.

If she was, then I’d have to expose us, because there was no way I was letting her die. I’d fight them. I should have brought weapons. I mentally kicked myself for not thinking of it back at the house. I heard footsteps behind me in the distance, but I didn’t turn to see who it was.

The town square was alight with torches and oil lamps, illuminating the freshly erected gallows and jeering crowd. My gaze climbed the wooden platform, and I found my worst nightmare come true.

I stumbled upon the Mindful Souls website. I bought three items individually. Than I realized it would be cheaper to sign up for the subscription box.

These were in my first box in October.

 These items were in my second box that arrived on Friday.

I would say that this is probably my favorite subscription box, along with my monthly tea.

Excerpt Tour: Underestimate Me, That'll Be Fun

BLURB:

This book is a collection of rants, opinions, and observations on random subjects that I scribbled

while running away from and toward my true self.

I hope my words can show others that there is life after years of breaking rocks on society's

conformity chain gang and that real empowerment is being yourself and not what others tell you

that you should be. You cannot sit and read the book of your life as it unfolds. You must write

the next page yourself. That is the way to growth and to peace and yes, you can be homesick

for places you have never been.

Book description by my Inner voice: This is a chunk of at times incoherent ramblings on life and

people one meets as they wander aimlessly on the internet and through the so-called real

world... a shambolic, circumlocutious clustershtuck of a sometimes crap-infused, possibly drug-fuelled word salad.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
Mess is a matter of perspective
They say the inside of your purse and your home are the reflection of your mind and how you
live your life. Let’s not discuss the inside of my purse. I need everything in it… or I will
eventually. I’m just happy when it passes airport security.
I love having everything in its place, but I certainly don’t fret none about a sweater thrown over a
chair or stacks of books piling up beside my bed. My house is uncluttered and very clean, but I
do have one clothes closet I am afraid to get to the back of in case a body turns up in there. I
guess I’ll wait until the cast of Hoarders shows up. That might motivate me. I am in the processof throwing things out and giving things away and it feels good to lighten up a little. I will get to
the purse(s) eventually.
Inner Voice: Do you need that 2016 Steven Tyler concert ticket stub or those eight hair ties?
And how old is that chocolate raisin protein bar? Did it have raisins in it when you first put it in
your purse and why are they moving? Ewwwww!
Furiosa: HEY! It’s blasphemy to throw out a Steven Fuckin’ Tyler anything!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

AUTHOR :

Furiosa has been expressing her thoughts and ideas on paper, walls, and sidewalks since she

could hold a crayon. Though she only recently published her first book, Underestimate Me.

That’ll be Fun! She identifies as a bestselling author. She wants you to know that being yourself

is your superpower. Furiosa loves autobiographies, classic old movies, all genres of music,

chasing stars, and visiting far-flung places via roads less travelled.

KATE

“Really?” he asks as he opens the door of my bedroom and looks me up and down. “It’s perfect what you’re wearing.”

“God, Mason.” I glare at him. “You have to stop barging in my room like that. What if I was naked?”

“I knew you weren’t,” he says self-assuredly. “You didn’t sound like you were getting dressed.”

“I didn’t sound like I was getting dressed?” I repeat. “Now, you have to tell me how that sounds.” I huff, zipping up my hoodie vest.

“I’d demonstrate it if we had time, but we don’t. We need to move, or we’ll be late.”

Late? Maybe I do want a demonstration.

Then I get this visual of him stripping off his black sweat pants and white shirt, and I feel my face flushing.

Oh no.

“What are you thinking about?”

Of course he notices.

I walk straight for my desk and grab my phone. “We should get going if we don’t want to be late.”

And then I slip past him out of the bedroom before I have to come up with a lie as to why my cheeks just flushed bright red.

Or worse, before I involuntarily tell him the truth, again.
